Kanazawa Tomoko has missed a number of events over the past few weeks due to a supposed case of gastroenteritis. She has now been diagnosed with endometriosis, a disease in which tissue that normally grows inside the uterus grows outside it. The main symptoms are pelvic pain and infertility.

There is no cure for endometriosis, but a number of treatments may improve symptoms, mainly through pain management.

Kanazawa will remain in Juice=Juice, however her schedule will be adapted to her condition and how it evolves. Juice=Juice staff members have Kanazawa’s health as their highest priority and will be cooperating with physicians to monitor her condition.

Kanazawa has released a statement on her blog:

When I first found out about this illness、 I felt extremely uneasy。 But currently、 I strongly feel that I don’t want to give up halfway on our dreams, with the group in the midst of our nationwide 220 performance tour which will lead up to our group’s goal of having our own performance at the Nippon Budokan、 so as I go face-to-face with my illness from now on、 I intend to be positive and continue on with activities。

She is the second Hello! Project idol known to suffer from endometriosis, after Matsuura Aya revealed in August 2011 she had been suffering from the same disease for over 4 years.
